Arlene Patricia Houck, age 67 years, of Raritan Township, NJ, died peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at home, surrounded by her loving family and under the caring watch of Hunterdon Hospice.
Born in Newark, NJ on November 26, 1950, she was the daughter of William Queen and Olga Melenchuk Queen of Kenilworth, NJ. She had resided with her daughter in Raritan Township for the past three months, having been raised in Kenilworth, then moving and rearing her own family in Edison, NJ. Arlene later moved to East Brunswick and finally settled in Helmetta, NJ where she had lived for the past twenty-three years.
A 1968 graduate of David Brearley High School in Kenilworth, upon graduation Arlene worked for several years as a medical assistant at the office of a prominent Kenilworth general practitioner, Dr. Brandwein.
The past twenty-four years found Arlene working as a chiropractic assistant at Freedman Chiropractic Center, East Brunswick, NJ. She will be fondly missed by the many patients that came to love her caring and gentle ways over the years.
Fiercely independent, Arlene was a a diligent and conscientious worker who loved her Dunkin’ Donuts coffee and shopping at Bath & Body Works. She also enjoyed reading and was very spiritual.
As she battled ALS for the past year, Arlene made it known that what she was most proud of in life was being a loving mother and grandmother. She lived to spoil her grandson and her legacy of love will forever guide him as he makes his own journey through life.
In addition to her parents, surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl Lee and Evan Kurowski; her grandson, Edison Ohm Kurowski; her sisters, Barbara Caracozza of Kenilworth, NJ and Virginia Terry of Union, NJ; her former spouse, Anthony Houck of Monroe Township, NJ; her dear friends, Dr. Ken and Norma Freedman; several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family; and many friends.
Cremation at the Chapel of Ewing Crematory, Ewing Township, NJ was private under the care and direction of Wright & Ford Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 38 State Highway 31, Flemington, NJ.
Life celebration services and inurnment in the mausoleum at Graceland Memorial Park will be held at a later date.
