Elaine J. Lillie (83) of Eagan, MN, formerly of Readington, NJ, passed away on January 20, 2023 at Fairview Ridges Hospital in Burnsville, MN, after a brief illness.

Born in Hillside, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Ralph V. Oswald, Sr. and Louise H. (Geyer) Oswald.

Elaine grew up in Hillside and graduated from Hillside High School in 1957. She resided in Scotch Plains before moving to Readington, where she lived for more than 30 years. Elaine and her husband Larry owned many businesses including Mountain Deli in Scotch Plains, Sweets N’ Such ice cream/candy store in Somerville, and the Union Hotel in Whitehouse Station. Elaine was also a Controller for the Montgomery Township Board of Education in Skillman, NJ, and retired in 2010.  She moved to Minnesota in 2012 to be closer to her grandchildren.

A true child of the, “Jersey Shore”, Elaine love it there and spent a week “down the shore” every August until a few years ago.

Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence (Larry) L. Lillie Jr. and her sister, Marion L. Bechler.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurene L. Fleming of Ewing, NJ, her son, Lawrence (Larry) L. Lillie III and his wife, Kim; her grandchildren, Jenna and Nicholas; her beloved dog, Snoopy, and Granddog, Oliver, all of Burnsville, MN; her brothers, Ralph Oswald Jr. of Toms River, NJ and Arthur Oswald Sr. of Manchester, NJ; many nieces, nephews, and extended family; and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Elaine’s Life will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at River Rock Restaurant, (formerly Peterson’s Riviera Inn), 1600 NJ-70, Brick Twp, NJ, with a gathering  from 4:00-5:30 p.m., followed by a service at 5:30 p.m. to which all are welcome.
