FLEMINGTON, NJ. Stephanie (Penny) Kerr passed away peacefully at her home on December 3, 2007. Born on September 19, 1925, she was the daughter of Hnat and Catherine Sahaydak, formerly of the Ukraine. Raised on the family farm in Sandbrook, she attended a nearby one-room schoolhouse and later attended Flemington High School. It was at Flemington High School where she met her future husband, Joseph R. Kerr, Jr. She and Joe began dating after he returned from World War II. They married in 1947 and built a home in Flemington, where they lived and raised two children. Penny worked for a time at RCA and, later, for Ortho Pharmaceuticals, both in Raritan. She was one of the first secretaries of the Flemington VFW Auxiliary and was active for many years with the Flemington-Raritan Rescue Squad Auxiliary where she organized country-western dance lessons there for many years to raise funds for the squad. She was also a life member of the American Ex-POWs. However, it was her family that gave her the most pleasure and it is to them that she devoted her time, her energy and her love. In addition to her beloved husband of over 60 years, Joseph R. Kerr, Jr. who had so lovingly taken care of her for years, she will be greatly missed by a son, Joseph R. Kerr, III and a daughter, Patricia Kerr, both of Flemington as well as her five grandchildren, Mike and Sean Dufford of Flemington, Kelly Kerr Duerr, Bryan Kerr and Devon Kerr, all of Seattle, WA and her great-grandchild, Max Duerr of Seattle, WA. She is also survived by one brother, Walter Sahaydak, of Cherryville, PA. She was predeceased by a sister, Mary Duckworth and three brothers, Mike, Tony and Joe Sahaydak. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 7, 2007 at 12:30 PM in the Robert L. Ford Funeral Home, #38 Highway 31, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in St. Magdalen’s Cemetery in Flemington. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Friday morning from 10:30 AM until time of service.
